SP0468 : Forge Mill Needle Museum - fanning out tray

Forge Mill Needle Museum - fanning out tray.
When needle and fish hooks had been dried in the barrelling shop - see SP0468 : Forge Mill Needle Museum - the barrelling shop - they had to be separated from the sawdust they had been dried in. This was done in a fanning tray. Basically, skilled shaking of the tray separated the light sawdust from the heavy needles or hooks (a bit like winnowing or panning for gold) and left a tray of gleaming needles ready to be packaged and sent for sale.
