Forge Mill Needle Museum - scouring runners
Forge Mill Needle Museum - scouring runners
These are the runners on the top floor. The process is described here - SP0468 : Forge Mill Needle Museum - scouring runners. As none of these are moving, there is none of the draconian guarding to be found below and photography is distinctly easier. The cloth bound package on top of the runner in the centre is a sett - the cloth bound package containing up to 60,000 needles for scouring. This machinery was in commercial use until 1956!
