In the foreground the Coast-to-Coast long-distance footpath leaves the cyclepath (which follows a disused railway) en route for Cleator (hence "C/C" painted on the tarmac).
Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk

The Coast to Coast Walk is a 192-mile route across northern England devised by Alfred Wainwright. It starts on the Irish Sea at St Bees in Cumbria and crosses the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks to finish at Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea coast.
