SU4557 : View south from Beacon Hill

taken 13 years ago, near to Old Burghclere, Hampshire, Great Britain

View south from Beacon Hill
View south from Beacon Hill
From near the grave of the Earl of Carnarvon, this is the view south. In this direction is the only weakness in the defence of the hill, a long southerly ridge that reduces the steep slope to be overcome by attackers. The sheep pasture and arable land at the base of the hill all belongs to the Highclere castle estate.
