Old gateposts
These gateposts are a relic of the Dalquhurn Dye Works, and they stand at the south-eastern corner of the area that was occupied by those works. For context, see NS3977 : Cycle route at Dalquhurn.
The dye works were cleared away (NS3977 : Construction site at Dalquhurn) for housing (NS3977 : Dalquhurn Estate); for the processes that were formerly carried out there, see NS3977 : The former Pillanflatt.
The gateposts stand beside the River Leven, on the course of a cycle route (NCN7), at the eastern end of a track called NS3977 : The Howgate. Compare NS3977 : Old gatepost at Dalquhurn, which is located about 500 metres to the north, and which probably looks fairly similar underneath its covering of vegetation.
