Erosion on the Carr Naze
The Carr Naze is a high headland on the north side of Filey Bay, site of a Roman signal station, discovered in 1857 after a cliff fall. About two-thirds of the site has now disappeared into the sea.
Layers of sedimentary rock can be seen beneath the softer rocks above which are quickly eroding. The path along the top of the naze is about 15 feet wide at its narrowest point. There is no access to Filey Brigg (the rocky bit that sticks out at the end) from the headland.
