On 27 June 1967 the world's first ATM (Cash Machine) was installed at this branch. There is a plaque on the front of the building marking the spot where the machine was installed. The opening ceremony was performed by Reg Varney of "On the Buses" fame. This plaque TQ3296 : Plaque on Barclays Bank, Church Street, Enfield was installed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of this installation, which changed the face of banking for ever.
