SU8216 : Jagged stump

taken 9 years ago, near to Chilgrove, West Sussex, Great Britain

Jagged stump
Jagged stump
On the ridge to the west of Monkton Farm grow a number of large ash trees - the one nearest the camera now reduced to this jagged stump. I have to say that I think of the ash as a species more characteristic of the Midlands and Wales than of southern England - but they are common enough in this part of Sussex. Nearby, there is reference to the ash in a farm name: Staple Ash Link
