Croome River before restoration
Croome River before restoration
After years of neglect Croome Park which was 'Capability' Brown's first landscape project was suffering as can be witnessed here with the man-made serpentine lake known as Croome River becoming choked with reeds. The National Trust acquired the parkland in 1997 and set out on a ten year project to restore it. Since this picture was taken the lake as been cleared of reeds and restored. Croome Court can be seen through the trees in the background. The Court which was the seat of the Earls of Coventry until the 1940s was sold off and for many years was a school, in 2007 it was purchased back by the Croome Heritage Trust and was leased to the National Trust who have since opened the house to the public.
