SO9494 : North portal of Coseley Tunnel

taken 12 years ago, near to Coseley, Dudley, Great Britain

North portal of Coseley Tunnel
North portal of Coseley Tunnel
The tunnel was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1837 to provide a more direct route between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. The tunnel is 330m long and like the similar Netherton Tunnel has towpaths on both sides. The wingwall is in a sad and sorry state.
