At Denver Sluice. The draining of the Fens, with the many hand-dug channels and banks was a huge undertaking and, combined with many pumping stations, has created a very large area of high quality arable farmland. It has also taken away a huge wetland that was home to a wealth of wildlife. With loss of peat from the farmland and moves to recreate some of the wetland, a large scale rotational system between wetland and farmland with core wetland areas to allow for species continuity may be the stable long term solution. We shall see.
