Rockrose flowering among marjoram
Rockrose flowering among marjoram
This is Common Rockrose, Helianthemum nummularium, growing on the steep scarp of Denbies hillside. This shot was taken in August, but my notes tell me I've seen rockrose in bloom here as late as October.

The meadows on this hillside are notable for a number of species of orchid, gentians, an abundance of marjoram - and, in a good year, loads of butterflies.
