Site of Keen Edge Ferry
A look at the map shows that the footpath along the riverside changes bank just here.
This was where a ferry once operated. Nothing remains now, not even an old slipway, and the bank is not easily accessible as you see.
There is a proposal for a footbridge to link the two bits of path so that the Thames Path doesn't have to go roadside via Shillingford Bridge, but whether that will ever happen in these hard times remains to be seen.
A rather fanciful water colour painting of the ferry in its heyday was done by John Serres in 1823 and copies are on offer on numerous art websites. Google images of Keen Edge Ferry for a selection.
