Hagg Bank from the bridge
Hagg Bank is a small community of 26 houses close to Wylam located on a meander on the River Tyne near to the Newcastle to Carlisle railway line between Wylam and Prudhoe stations. It was originally named 'Hag Bank' (single 'g') with only a single cottage, 'Hagbank Cottage' just south of the railway line and Hag House to the west in 'The Park' (now Hagg Farm). Hagg Bank Bridge NZ1164 : Hagg Bank Bridge was built in 1876 adding a railway loop on the north bank of the river, via North Wylam, Heddon on the Wall, Newburn and Scotswood Stations. The houses in Hagg Bank probably date from this time, built just north of the railway junction (North Wylam Junction). Just west of the bridge across the line which connects the settlement NZ1064 : Bridge over the railway at Hagg Bank, was another railway junction from the West Wylam Colliery situated to the south-west.
