Former site of the Folly Castle
The path on the right is one of those making up the Nature Trail, the network of woodland walks in the estate of NS4276 : Overtoun House.

To the left of the path, some fragments of stone indicate the likely position of a folly that was built in the second half of the nineteenth century, and which was demolished at some time around 1970. See NS4276 : Ruins of the Folly Castle for more detailed information, and NS4276 : Footbridge over the Overtoun Burn for context.
Former site of Folly Castle
James White of Overtoun had a folly castle, in the form of a ruined ivy-covered tower, built on a small crag overlooking the Overtoun Burn. The memorial stone of Bishop Scrogie of Argyll was built into the folly, which was demolished c.1970. See also Overtoun House: LinkExternal link
Overtoun House Nature Trail :: NS4175
Locally, the woodland walks within the Overtoun Estate are still collectively known as "the Nature Trail", in memory of the fact that they used to be laid out as a nature trail with numbered marker posts (the Nature Trail, made with funds left over from the Quality of Life Experiment, officially opened on the 26th of April 1980). New waymarkers were added, both here and in the adjacent Lang Craigs Woodland ( LinkExternal link ), in May 2015. For more on the Nature Trail, see Overtoun House: LinkExternal link
