NY5857 : Remains of small reservoir

taken 7 years ago, near to Forest Head, Cumbria, Great Britain

Remains of small reservoir
Remains of small reservoir
This former reservoir is just east of Foresthall lime kilns, with which it was probably associated, and between the lines of two old tramways which served the nearby limestone quarry and Blacksike Colliery. They were the sources of the raw materials used by the lime kilns. The reservoir appears to have been fed by an aqueduct using water sources to the south of the quarry including Howgill Beck.
