Lock into King George Dock, Hull
Lock into King George Dock, Hull
The lock, which provides access between the River Humber and the dock, is 26 metres wide. This is just about wide enough for the P&O ferries from Zeebrugge, which are just over 25 metres wide. However, manoeuvring the boats between river and dock takes a good hour. On this morning of gales, Svitzer tugs are also required to guide the ferry (the "Pride of Bruges") across the dock, and one of them waits in the further lock. The ferry eventually docked about two hours late.
