This plaque appears on a building on Eton High Street near Barnes Pool Bridge, see SU9677 : Training in Eton It marks the 25 miles to go point of the 1908 London Olympic route. That year the event started on the east terrace of Windsor Castle and finished at the White City Stadium. Its distance, 26 miles 385 yards, became the standard length for the marathon in subsequent events and remains so today.
