SJ3665 : The Saltney Ferry steps and tidal bore

The Saltney Ferry steps and tidal bore
The Saltney Ferry steps and tidal bore
The tidal bore on the River Dee can be seen approaching fast, heading for Chester. The steps were built to enable foot passengers and cyclists to board the ferry (before the footbridge was built) whatever the state of the tide or the river flow. In summer the river can be much lower than seen here, and at very high tides, the steps can be completely underwater.
