This telephoto assisted image is looking back across the bog from the boardwalk towards the steep slopes of Pen Llanerch, the western edge of the Elenydd moorlands. The B4343 and the course of the former Manchester and Milford Railway are concealed in the deciduous trees at the bae of the hills.

Cors Caron is a raised bog system covering more than 800 acres (325 hectares). It is 6km in length and provides a habitat for a wide range of wildlife and plants. The bog itself began to form 12,000 years ago when the last of the Ice Age glaciers melted away. A large shallow lake was left, which very gradually filled with sediments and vegetation, forming peat and later, acid peat.
