NZ2033 : River Wear south-west of Newfield

taken 7 years ago, near to Newfield, County Durham, Great Britain

River Wear south-west of Newfield
River Wear south-west of Newfield
The view is upstream which here is to the east. There's a public footpath mapped at the water's edge on the south bank and that route was being followed on this occasion. To follow the route may not always be possible - there are extensive deposits of silt and debris which indicate that the path is on occasion, inundated. There does seem to be an alternative route within a field adjacent to the fence seen at the right side of the image; maps indicate no right of way there but the path may well have been re-routed with maps not yet reflecting the change.
