Drumochter Plateau
Drumochter Plateau
A high pressure system in January 2012 has brought superb winter walking conditions to the Scottish Highlands, with exceptional visibility. This image shows the Drumochter plateau, viewed across the course of the Allt Coire Cisteachan. The Drumochter plateau is an extensive upland area with no single summit level, formed by uplift and limited erosion of an ancient land surface. The plateau surface is believed to exhibit features of selective glacial erosion, where relatively warm glacial streams eroded deep troughs such as the Cama Choire (see image NN6878 : The Cama' Choire in winter), and adjacent areas were relatively unmodified under colder, slower moving ice. See also Geograph image NN6678 : View from A' Bhuidheanach Mhòr for view over the Drumochter plateau.
