Notice Under Carlowrie Bridge
Notice Under Carlowrie Bridge
The bridge carries the main railway line from Edinburgh to and from the Forth Bridge, so there is potential for enormous disruption if a vehicle on the road should collide with and damage it. What caught my eye is the units of measurement. I don't think I have seen anything measured in chains for decades. For the benefit of those not old enough to remember the Imperial units, a chain is 22 yards (the length of a cricket pitch. 10 chains make a furlong, and 8 furlongs (or 80 chains) make a mile.
