The Britannia, Headington
The Britannia, Headington
On the corner of Lime Walk and London Road, this former coaching inn dates from around 1770.
The nearer building was the old stables.
The business used to own a field on the other side of the road which was used for grazing coach horses. When this wasn't needed any more it was leased to the local football club Headington (now Oxford) United.
A very detailed pub history is on LinkExternal link with old pictures and maps, and a message from the widow of Barrington Buggins no less, who became landlady in 1847.
