Cramond Tower
Cramond Tower
Sources vary as to whether the tower dates from the 14th, 15th or 16th century. It may have been built by the Bishop of Dunkeld, but then again it may not. It passed through the hands of the Douglas family of Kilspindie and the descendants of Edinburgh merchant James Inglis, who bought it in 1622. It was abandoned in 1680 when the more commodious Cramond House was built nearby, and fell into ruin. It was restored between 1979 and 1981 by Robert Hurd and Partners for Mr Jamieson. It is a Category B Listed building, but is no longer a scheduled Ancient Monument.
