Frosted bracken in Pavis Wood
Frosted bracken in Pavis Wood
A sharp overnight frost (about -4C) had coated many low-lying plants with ice crystals, though by the time I was taking these photographs only those that were in shaded areas away from the warmth of the sun retained their rime, such as this bracken and SP9108 : Frosted leaves, Pavis Wood
Pavis Wood :: SP9109
Pavis Wood lies to the west of Hastoe and contains the highest point in Hertfordshire at 248m. It is quite steeply sloping to the north falling down to about 175m over a horizontal distance of only about 300m. There are various paths within the wood, most notably along its higher ground the Ridgeway LDP. Pavis Wood merges seamlessly into Northill Wood to the SW and Dog Wood, Grove Wood and Stubbing's Wood to the NE.
