Shell Mex House
Shell Mex House
Shell Mex House was built in the 1930s on the site of the Hotel Cecil. Built in an Art-Deco style the building was originally the headquarters of Shell Petroleum. Nikolaus Pevsner, the architectural historian, described the building as "thoroughly unsubtle, but succeeds in holding its own in London's river front". The large clock was nicknamed 'Big Benzine'
