These sheep are grazing the fields at the Coombe Bissett Down Nature Reserve.

The Herdwick is found in the Lake District and on the fells of Northumberland. They are a carpet wool and meat breed. The lambs are born with black faces, legs and blue-roan fleeces which lighten in the adults. The males are horned and the females are polled or naturally hornless.
