NN0527 : Loch Awe

taken 7 years ago, 5 km from Ardanaiseig, Argyll And Bute, Great Britain

Loch Awe
Loch Awe
Near the end of the weirdly shaped Loch Awe. This is the Pass of Brander, a faulted gap to the south of Ben Cruachan and once near the head of the loch, before it found this new outlet. The level of the water has been raised by a small dam for hydroelectric generation.

Awe is one of the four "biggest" lochs in Scotland - it is the longest.
The others are: Biggest surface area Loch Lomond, Biggest volume Loch Ness, Deepest Loch Morar.
