Westbound freight pulling away from Sandy towards Bedford
View eastward from the A603 bridge: ex-LNW Bletchley - Bedford - Cambridge line, an important east-west link continuing on from Bletchley to Oxford, which should never have been closed. However, it was closed, on 1/1/68, except for Bedford - Bletchley; later it was reopened Oxford - Bicester. After sharing Sandy station, the train on the ex-LNW line is here climbing up to cross the ECML (out of sight below) and will proceed west to Bedford and Bletchley. The locomotive is Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48446 (built at Swindon in 1944 and worked on the GWR until 5/47, withdrawn 7/65). Behind the train is Swading Hill.
