Wortley Top Forge
This 17th century water powered iron forge on the River Don is acknowledged as being the oldest surviving heavy iron forge in the world. It was best known for the wrought iron railway axles that were produced between 1840 and 1910. It is now an industrial museum in the care of the South Yorkshire Industrial History Society and is currently being restored.
