Trellick Tower, Golborne Road
"Unforgettable", wrote Pevsner. By Erno Goldfinger for the Greater London Council, 1966-72, and clearly a development of his earlier Balfron Tower (TQ3881 : Balfron Tower, St Leonard's Road (1)). It is clad in bush-hammered concrete. The service tower is detached from the main slab and connected on every third floor (TQ3881 : Detail of Balfron Tower, St Leonard's Road). Hard to believe in 2012, but the provisions were generous - marble-lined entrance halls and spacious balconies - which is no doubt why, having been blighted by the customary social problems, it has since become a sought-after place to live (although still primarily catering for social housing). Grade II* listed.
