View from East Craig
View from East Craig
Looking north-east from East Craig in Castlecary High Wood.
Burnhouse Trout Fishery in the foreground.
The sandstone coloured block in the dead-centre of the picture
is the castle at Torwood (some 5 miles away).
A clear line of sight between here and Torwood meant Wallace could
signal to his men at East Craig while he hid in the legendary hollow
oak tree up near The Tor-wood.

"For smokey signals he did send,
So his land he could defend.
And fae thon place near Loch-greene,
His fellow warriors could be seen."
Archibald the Deaf - 1466
