The grave, a tomb slab, is at the corner of the preaching cross LinkExternal link in the churchyard at Welsh Newton. John Kemble was a Catholic priest who was executed in 1679, aged 80, as a result of agitation following the Titus Oates plot. John Kemble was beatified in 1929 by Pope Pius XI and canonised on October 25 1970 by Pope Paul VI.
