Nene Valley Railway: Orton Mere Station (1)
The present day Nene Valley Railway follows a section of the old London & North Western Railway's line between Northampton and Peterborough that was eventually closed by British Railways in 1972. This was the first railway to arrive in Peterborough, in 1845, pre-dating the Great Northern Railway's line to and from London by a couple of years.

This is Orton Mere station viewed from the pedestrian crossing by Orton Sluices. There was never a station here in British Railways' days and the signalbox on the right was originally a crossing keeper's box on the Midland Railway relocated here in about 1979 from Maxey Crossing near Helpston on the Peterborough to Leicester line.
