Field system east of Upper Upham
Field system east of Upper Upham
Part of an extensive Prehistoric or Romano-British field system visible as earthworks and cropmarks. The northernmost part of the field system lies beyond the horizon, and may have been re-used in the form of cultivation terraces in the Medieval or Post-Medieval period by the settlement of Upham. Pictured is the continuation of the field system to the south, which is bisected by the minor road to Upper Upham (on the horizon). This part of the system consists of a series of small rectilinear fields which measure approx. 100 x 80 metres, though there are also smaller strip fields in this system. The field system continues further south still. LinkExternal link system wiltshire&rational=q&recordsperpage=10&p=0&move=p&nor=919&recfc=0
