TQ1656 : Railway bridge over the River Mole at Leatherhead

taken 7 years ago, near to Leatherhead, Surrey, Great Britain

Railway bridge over the River Mole at Leatherhead
Railway bridge over the River Mole at Leatherhead
There are two railway bridges across the Mole at Leatherhead. This one is further downstream than the other, and carries the line to Bookham, Effingham Junction and Guildford. It was built by the London & South Western Railway, whereas the bridge on the Horsham line - nearer the town centre - was the work of the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway.

In TQ1656 : The River Mole at Leatherhead the bridge in the foreground is the L&BSCR one, with the L&SWR bridge visible in the distance.

Many thanks to John Sutton, for clarifying the railway history for me.
