The old L&SWR bridge over the River Mole at Leatherhead
There are two railway bridges across the River Mole at Leatherhead. This is the widest span of the downstream one, originally built by the old London & South Western Railway to carry its line to Effingham Junction and Guildford.

The bridge carrying the Guildford line crosses the river at an oblique angle, so that the piers of the bridge are not at right angles to the track, but skewed. Examination of the brickwork lining the arches shows that the engineers had some tricky geometrical problems to solve.
