WWI pillbox, Shingle Street
WWI pillbox, Shingle Street
A single-storey, circular pillbox dating from WWI with a slightly domed concrete roof. The interior roof is lined with corrugated iron sheeting, supported by two steel joists that are covered with earth. The pillbox is split by two large cracks, each half being supported by a concrete buttress. An additional embrasure has been cut during WWII in the elevation facing the road exit from the beach, and one original embrasure has been reduced to receive a 'Turnbull' mounting.
