SU9203 : Canal aqueduct over Aldingbourne Rife

Canal aqueduct over Aldingbourne Rife
Canal aqueduct over Aldingbourne Rife
The long disused Portsmouth and Arundel Canal crosses Aldingbourne Rife via a two-arched culvert type aqueduct. Only one arch is evident here, the second being to its right obscured by vegetation. The two arches are unobscured on the other side of the canal, but light only seems to come through the western one. It may be the other has collapsed, perhaps the reason that vegetation has been able to grow so well over this end. The canal bank level is at the top of the rise on the right.
