The High Kirk of Edinburgh
The High Kirk of Edinburgh
More popularly known as St. Giles Cathedral, despite the fact that it was only a cathedral for two brief periods in its history (163538 and 166189). The term High Kirk is used in the Church of Scotland for churches which were cathedrals before the Reformation, though that is not true in the case of St. Giles. The church was first designated a cathedral when Charles II decided to establish a bishop's chair in Edinburgh in 1635.
