Gas lamp at Ham Gate, Richmond Park
Gas lamp at Ham Gate, Richmond Park
Lighting at Ham Gate is by gas, and there is a plaque on one of the gate posts drawing attention to the fact. At the time when I took this photo, the main mantles were not yet lit - the glow comes from something like a pilot light.

Just how old these gas lamps are, I can't say. According to Collenette's book, 'A History of Richmond Park', the wrought iron gates at Ham Gate date from 1921, when earlier wooden gates were replaced.
