The Rylands Building, by Harry S. Fairhurst & P.G. Fairhurst, completed in 1932. Pevsner records that it was "the largest wholesale textile warehouse of its day in the city ... over 230ft long." Typically for its day, a steel frame clad in Portland stone, with corner turrets, and zig-zag patterns running along the top of the facades. Those features help, but it's a bit stolid even if impressively big. Grade II listed.
It's been Debenhams for several decades.
