Soviet memorial in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park
The inscription in front of the memorial says "THIS MEMORIAL COMMEMORATES THE 27 MILLION SOVIET CIVILIANS & SERVICE MEN & WOMEN WHO DIED FOR THE ALLIED VICTORY IN WWII. THIS MEMORIAL WAS RAISED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN GREAT BRITAIN AND RUSSIA" It is to be found in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park and was unveiled in 1999. Behind is the side of the Imperial War Museum, built in the early 19th century as the Bethlem Royal Hospital, also known as Bedlam. The hospital moved to Monks Orchard at Beckenham in 1930 (see LinkExternal link ) and the Imperial War Museum took over the building, opening to the public here in 1936.
