The Charborough Stag
The Charborough Stag
The Stag stands atop Stag Gate at a bend in the long brick wall that surrounds Charborough Park. The stag is sometimes said to Have five legs because of the extra support visible in this image, but there is very little evidence to show that the fifth "leg" was added to ensure that the owner could see four legs from his 84 room stately pile up on top of the hill. The stag is made from Coade stone a man made ceramic material produced by firing a moulded clay like mixture.
