Down coal train at Tamworth High Level
Down coal train at Tamworth High Level
View northward, towards Burton-on-Trent and Derby: ex-Midland Derby - Birmingham main line. Evidently at the time (1961) under reconstruction - probably in connection with the WCML electrification (this High Level station was directly above Tamworth Low Level station on the ex-LNWR WCML). A field nearby was a celebrated Train-Spotters' 'Valhalla', on account of this being the crossing point of two major main lines. The Class K train is headed by one of the numerous ex-Midland Johnson/Deeley 5'3" 3F 0-6-0s, No. 43709 (withdrawn 8/62).
