The Area to the north of Norman Street was part levelled and former industrial buildings off Melville Street were turned into a Civil Defence Headquarters and car park. The headquarters were demolished and replaced with the current bus station and multi-storey car parking in the 1970s.In September 2011 a 5,275.00 upgrade of signage by the City Council and Stagecoach was to improve safety but the area that includes Sincil Street, the bus garage and the old Grand Hotel is probably going to be changed out of all recognition by a 100m redevelopment of the area called the Lindongate scheme.
