Harbour Master's office
This picture is from the top of Lucy Tower Street car park. Designed by local Lincoln Architect Maurice Palmer in the late 70s and standing almost in the position of the medieval Lucy Tower this two-storey structure was owned by The Brayford Trust (est. 1969). It was formerly used as an office, but it stood unused for years. The current 170sqm redevelopment proposal by Stem Architects involves the demolition of the building down to its foundations and raising a new two-storey structure to be used as a restaurant.
Brayford Pool
It is believed that Brayford (Broad Ford) Pool is where Lincolnís name and earliest habitation is derived; the Iron Age people called the place Llyn (pool of water) Don (settlement on a hill). The Romans Latinised the name to Lindensium shortened to Lindum. Eventually about 80AD it became a colony town where Roman Legionaries were allowed to retire to and was renamed Lindum Colonia. Over the centuries the name developed into Lincoln.
