Two ruined towers at Flint Castle
Two ruined towers at Flint Castle
King Edward I of England ordered Flint Castle to be built as the very first of what was to become his 'iron ring' of English castles in North Wales. Work began in 1277 and by 1280 Edward employed the Savoyard master castle designer James of Saint George to complete the project to the highest contemporary European standards of impregnability, power and might.
