Tree clumps off Long Lane Bollington
Tree clumps off Long Lane Bollington
There are a number of these tight clumps of trees scattered on the hillside above Long Lane. My guess, although not so marked on the OS maps here, is that they are, with the slight mound around which they cluster, the remains of mining activity some 200 or more years ago. Fenced round to keep out grazing sheep or cows the trees could just have sprung up or been planted intentionally. They do seem all of a type.
